Anxiety disorders

Anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness or fear. Everyone feels anxiety sometimes. But in some people, anxiety becomes so powerful that it affects their relationships, work and home life.

In any given year, about 18 percent of U.S. adults will have an anxiety disorder. But less than half will get proper treatment.1

There are many types of anxiety disorders. Some of the more common ones are:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common condition. It affects children and teenagers, but can continue into adulthood as well.

Children with ADHD have problems paying attention or concentrating. They can’t seem to follow directions and can get easily bored with tasks. The behaviors associated with ADHD can make it hard for children to function at school and at home.

Autism spectrum disorder

Autism is one of a group of disorders that fall under the term “autism spectrum disorder.” Other autism spectrum disorders include

Asperger’s syndrome, Rett syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder. Symptoms are related to social problems, communication problems or repetitive behaviors. The severity of the symptoms will be different in each person.

Current estimates are that one child in 68 has some type of autism spectrum disorder.2 It can be diagnosed in children as young as 18 months. Boys are four times as likely as girls to receive a diagnosis.

Research shows that early diagnosis of and interventions for autism are more likely to have major long-term positive effects on symptoms and later skills.3

Depression

Depression can affect your thoughts, mood, health and behavior. It’s more than just ‘feeling sad or mad.’

Depression is a treatable condition. Usually, a combination of therapy and medicine is effective. If not treated, however, depression can get worse.

Eating disorders

You are more than how you look. But you might lose sight of this fact if you have an eating disorder. When an obsession you’re your image, weight or food takes over, it can hurt your health and even be life threatening. It is important to get help for even a mild eating disorder.

Trauma

Trauma is a mental health condition some people develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, such as war, a natural disaster, assault, or the death of a loved one.

It is not uncommon to experience trauma. In fact, according to the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) about 60% of men and 50% of women experience at least one trauma in their lives. While not every person who experiences trauma develops PTSD, approximately 7% to 8% of people do.
